The eighth season of SpongeBob SquarePants premiered on March 26, 2011 with the episodes "A Friendly Game" and "Oral Report" and will consist of 26 episodes, bringing the number of episodes up to 178.

Some time during this season, about 15 episodes so far, SpongeBob SquarePants will overtake Rugrats as the longest running Nicktoon (in terms of number of episodes in which Rugrats had 172 episodes and SpongeBob currently has 167 so far).

Squidward is injured at work and forces Mr. Krabs to pamper him while he recovers while SpongeBob, Patrick and an OWS Inspector secretly investigate.

Notes:

Nickelodeon UK promoted this episode as "A Squidward-Shaped Mystery".
It is revealed that there is an OWS poster, hidden in the stockroom.
There were many candles while Mr. Krabs was pampering Squidward, and the customers weren't bothered. But in "No Nose Knows", Patrick's scented candles annoyed everyone. This is because there is a difference between scented candles and fresh candles.
They didn't call the OWS in "The Splinter" when SpongeBob got the splinter in his thumb, they just threatened to send him home. This is possibly because SpongeBob's splinter was a minor injury.
In Squidward's false flashback, the chain on the right snaps, but in reality it was the one on the left.(its possible the scene was flipped) Also he says he lays for 6 hours before getting found. However Spongebob and Mr. Krabs run in immediately when they hear him fall.
It is debatable as to whether the surveillance camera operates from the same room as the one in "Truth or Square." The one in Truth or Square seemed unreachable, hinting that this one works from a different surveillance room.

Mr. Krabs finds a creative use for a hole in the wall of his restaurant: He transforms it into a drive-thru window. But trouble happens when more people come to use the drive-thru. In the end, the Krusty Krab collapsses due to the rioting with 3 holes and that the structure was too weak due the holes. Meanwhile, Plankton tries to sell his Chum Nuggets. But he fails.

Notes:

This wasn't the first time the Krusty Krab had a drive thru. The first time was in "Driven to Tears".
The windows are made out of glass, not wood.
Patrick surprisingly does not appear in this episode.
Second mention of "Chum Nuggets". The first time was in "Chum Caverns"

SpongeBob and Patrick are asleep after playing games and when they wake-up Patrick finds that he has grown a "beard". Squidward and Patrick start hanging out together, going to an art center, to the Men's club, then to the Opera house where they see a lady sing (which is actually SpongeBob trying to get back their relationship). In the end, Patrick finds out that a brown sea urchin was acting as the "beard". Now SpongeBob and Patrick are together again.
Notes:

This is the second time Patrick gets a beard. The first was To Save a Squirrel.
This episode was originally going to be called "Old Man Patrick" but it was changed to "Squidward's School for Grown-Ups".
This episode is paired with "Oral Report", but "The Hot Shot" originally was going to be paired with this episode.

The night before the school dance, Pearl gets a large barnacle on her face. After requesting expensive treatment to get rid of the blemish, Mr. Krabs opts instead to make SpongeBob help her out. He tries prying the barnacle out with his spatula, then a shovel, then a jackhammer, all to no avail. Then, when Pearl washes her face with soap, more barnacles sprout up. Thinking all hope is lost, she locks herself in the restroom and cries violently. SpongeBob then decides to simply hide the barnacles under a layer of facial cream, which ends up making Pearl's face look severely deformed. Finally, when Pearl asks SpongeBob to get her more soap from the basement, he finds Mr. Krabs producing the house's soap from leftover Krabby Patties. Realizing that she's been washing her face with grease, Pearl screams at her father and gives up trying to remove the barnacles. SpongeBob, inspired by something she said, resolves to cover up the barnacles with Mr. Krabs' precious jewels. Pearl's friends are dazzled by her sparkling face, and they happily depart for the school dance. ^[1] At the end, Mr. Krabs realizes that his jewels are gone, and he screams "Stop that whale!"
